It's been a great few months serving the Dallas Running Club alongside veteran pace leader James as a co-pace leader for the 2:05 Pace Group. The DRC offers an affordable training program to members, separate and apart from its other social runs, events and races. The training plans are specifically developed for every distance and experience level, and are written by RRCA-certified coaches. Support is given to runners every step of the way by the Training Director, coaches and pace leaders like me.
Since training for my goal half marathon was over early in 2016 (Houston) and I don't have any major goals on tap prior to starting up training later on this year for a fall marathon, it made sense to me to try something different through the late winter and spring. I've found that pace leading with the DRC has been an excellent way for me to stay engaged with the running community, stay in shape and build strength for marathon season and assist other runners achieve their goals as many others have done for me along the way. Total win-win!
The runners in my group are aiming for a half marathon time of - you guessed it - approximately two hours and five minutes or faster this spring season. We have group workouts on Tuesday nights (track, interval or hill) and Saturday morning long runs, with a few Saturdays off for local races. During the week, we check in through our Facebook group to be sure everyone is keeping up with the training program and to offer an encouraging word. It gets tricky trying to balance the demands of work, family and life with keeping up with fitness and your running goals!
2:05 started its journey this season in the cold, dark days of January...seems so long ago now! But with all their hard work, 2:05 has already shown that they have the strength and work ethic to become even better runners. I look forward to seeing just how good they can become.
Here's a few shots from the season:
