Being a teen/twentysomething of the 90's, I'm a big fan of the Foo Fighters, especially Dave Grohl. While obviously a rocker, Dave has branched out into and experimented with a lot of different musical genres. Unlike a lot of rock musicians, he doesn't automatically dismiss EDM as just knobs on useless machines.
Here's what Dave had to say about his varied musical tastes:
"I love music. I love ALL kinds of music. From Kyuss to Kraftwerk, Pinetop Perkins to Prodigy, Dead Kennedys to Deadmau5.....I love music. Electronic or acoustic, it doesn't matter to me. The simple act of creating music is a beautiful gift that ALL human beings are blessed with. And the diversity of one musician's personality to the next is what makes music so exciting and.....human."
I love this.
SIDE NOTE: If you are a music fan who also likes to watch documentaries (or a documentary fan who also liked music, LOL) and you haven't yet checked the doc produced by Dave called Sound City re: his involvement with the historic Van Nuys, CA studio of the same name, you need to add it to your movie queue and thank me later. The soundtrack includes everyone from Paul McCartney, Rick Springfield and Stevie Nicks to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and Corey Taylor of Slipknot. My favorite track on the album is "Mantra" -- check it out on iTunes or last.fm here. It's not a workout pick, but man, this is an incredible rock song for the ages, especially when it really gets going at the end.
For today's Playlist Add, the Foos hook up with deadmau5 for a great remix of "Rope." Both the original and the deadmau5 mix are available on iTunes on the "deluxe version" of the Foo Fighters' Wasted Light album, or you can also get the full Wasted Light album on Spotify.
As always, if you just want to check out today's playlist add for free, here's the Soundcloud hookup:
