Checking in from vacation while I have a few minutes to reflect and write. I promised myself at the beginning of this training cycle that I would do a better job of documenting my training so I could enjoy the memories later *and* better understand what worked well and what I could have done better. Here we go!
May 22, 2017 marked the approximate start of my 16-week training plan for the the next big goal...the REVEL Big Cottonwood Marathon in Utah. Once again, I'm working with the wonderful Mollie Turner of Piece of Cake Running. She's not only a great, intuitive and communicative coach, but she's also a pretty hilarious blogger over at Salty Running. Check her out! Mollie coached me to a PR of over 30 minutes for the St. George Marathon, so it was a no brainer to continue working with her for the next 26.2.
W1/D1/MON: "Fierce Monday" at GRIT with my girl Julie (aka "J-Hawk"). We took a 30 minute GRIT REVOLUTION Express cycle class and 30 minute lower-body-focused strength class led by Brit. BONUS: Julie earned her first GRIT tank after completing 16 classes in May plus demo'ing 10 push-ups on her toes.
The boss herself on the lead instructor bike...
Getting ready for 30 minutes of lower body werk 💪🍑
W1/D2/TUE: 7 early morning miles from Flagpole Hill followed by 5 x 100m strides. Our strides this week were a touch speedier this week than in weeks past.
We love our water stop 4 miles into the route, provided by Teresa! (thank you as always!!)
W1/D3/WED: Track Wednesday! 6 x 800m workout with 2 miles of warmup and 1.6 after for cooldown. Got in a little more cool down with Coco the Labradoodle before heading into the office.
PM: Taught 30 min GRIT Revolution Cycle class; my last regular one for a while. I will continue to sub for other instructors on the bike but Brit will be taking over the Wednesday night classes for the summer.
W1/D4/THU: Woke up feeling dehydrated and with a bad headache behind my eyes, so
missed my 5 mile recovery run with J-Hawk and Heather. Today ended up being more of a rest day after 2 two-a-days on Tue/Wed.
W1/D5/FRI: Felt much better today; woke up and got 5 slow recovery miles in; part of the run with Coco. Had lunch with my awesome grandmother Nello who is in town visiting us; the two of us did a "ladies lunch" during my lunch hour over at Neiman Marcus and then Cody and I took her to the Winspear for a show. We saw Sondheim's "Into the Woods," which was great!
W1/D6/SAT: EARLY roadtrip down to Ennis with my friends in the White Rock Running Co-op...several of whom are also my #Volée teammates. It's a tradition for our group to run the Ennis Polkafest 5K/10K, always the Saturday before Memorial Day. Last year was my first time to mae the trip to Ennis; I ran the 10K and took 3rd AG. This year, I signed up to run the 5K.
Super proud of our trophies!! Heather, J-Hawk and I all placed in our age groups. This is Heather's 5th time to place in Ennis...she's the Polkafest Queen 🏃♀️👸
Saturday night, Nello and I traveled over to Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth to take in a couple of preliminary rounds in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. It is no understatement to say that these pianists were some of the best I have ever heard live.
W1/D7/SUN: Ending the week with a fun trail run with the Luke's Pint Striders group. We went out to Boulder Park and got about 4 easy breezy recovery miles in on the dirt. Really fun crew and a nice way to end the week!
